Can God Really Trust You to Finish Strong?

Think about the last time that you were working on a really important project, task, or assignment. Perhaps, you are even working on something right now. You probably started out really excited about it, but you and I both know what happened next. Either you procrastinated getting started, or you started but quickly stopped. Why do we do that? What keeps us from starting something and finishing strong?

Well, there are several things that get in our way. We let fear slide in and then we wonder if we can really do it. We convince ourselves that there just isn’t enough time in the day to complete it. We sit around and wait for people to support us before we begin. The reality is that you are your greatest obstacle just like I’m my greatest obstacle. Ouch! That’s tough to hear, but it’s the truth. We procrastinate, and we start and stop because that is what we choose to do. How much more would you and I be able to do if we just get out of our own way?

So, let’s just get to it…can God really trust you to finish strong? Whatever it is that you are working on right now, or thinking about working on right now, is probably God inspired. Especially if the project/task will help others, and glorify Him, then you are most certainly thinking about something He has given you to work on. If God has given you a task or an assignment, He just wants to know today if He can trust you to finish it. Can He trust you to finish it in a timely manner? Someone is waiting for what He has you working on, and those individuals should not have to wait on you for 15 years to complete what God wanted you to complete in 2 years.

1 Corinthians 9: 24-25 NIV reads do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. As Believers, who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are in a great race, and we will eventually receive a great prize. However, while we are still here, we have to keep moving and compete against ourselves. Run against yourself; push yourself to finish.

If God can really trust you to finish strong, then there are a few things that will help you along the way:

Commitment & Self-Discipline

*Self-discipline is defined as the ability to control one's feelings and overcome one's weaknesses; the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite temptations to abandon it. If you are going to finish strong, then you have to be self-disciplined. Basically that means that you are willing to push yourself even when you don’t feel like being pushed. For example, you may feel like crashing on the couch to watch TV, but you make yourself get up, and work on your task. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us… Hebrews 12:1 NIV People who are self-disciplined have freedom to do what they want like everyone else, but the difference is that they are committed to the work. When you commit to your project, task, or assignment (I mean really commit to it) you will definitely finish strong.

Dismiss Procrastination

Once you have determined that God can really trust you to finish, you must dismiss procrastination. Procrastination is sneaky. In fact, I believe it is one of Satan’s best tricks. Procrastination says just work on it tomorrow, do it later, or it can wait. Well, what happens if tomorrow doesn’t come? Now, 10 years have gone by, and you’re trying to remember exactly what it was that you started so long ago. When you kick procrastination out, and create a schedule for your projects (even if it is just an hour or two each day) you will definitely finish strong.

Finish Strong

Finishing strong is possible for you. Do you know how I know? God trusted you with it. If He didn’t think you were capable of finishing, then He wouldn’t have given it to you. Now, whether you actually finish or not is completely up to you. Just know that you have everything you need, you certainly have what it takes to finish. You just have to be determined to do it. When you do finish, you will feel like a load has been lifted, and you will be able to say I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 NIV

Today is the day to decide if God can trust you to finish or not. I believe He can! Commit to it, dismiss procrastination, and just finish strong! I’m cheering you on, all of Heaven is cheering you on, but most importantly, He is cheering you on! Let Him heal your soul!
