3 Important Things to Do While You’re Waiting

Waiting is one thing that we will all have to experience in life. It doesn’t matter who you are, who you know, how long you’ve been saved, or even how much money you have. At some point or another, you will have to wait. Waiting in the line at the grocery store, waiting at the drive-thru, waiting for test results, waiting to get the job, waiting to be chosen, waiting for your next pay check…it sometimes feels like we wait our lives away.

I don’t know about you, so I’ll just speak for me, but there are times when I don’t feel like waiting. Sometimes, I get tired of being patient. Why is waiting so hard? Since we do so much waiting, you would think that we would be good at it by now, right? Well, I guess not. What is it about waiting that drives us absolutely crazy?!

I think what drives us crazy is that you feel like life is whizzing right past you, at the speed of light, and there you are still inactive, neglected, postponed, and delayed.

I certainly am no expert at waiting, in fact I still struggle with it at times, but through the extended periods of waiting in my life, God has taught me a few things which have helped me to better embrace my waiting seasons.

Contrary to what we believe, waiting is not some passive or inactive task. Waiting requires action on your part. Waiting requires you to be very intentional. Yes, we all must wait on the timing of the Lord, but how we spend that time waiting is completely up to each of us. You can decide to spend your time frustrated, depressed, angry, and aggravated, or you can spend your time working at these 3 very important things:

Be Still

If you are in a waiting season, then the first thing you need to do is be still in God’s presence. Psalm 37:7 says be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. Being still in His presence means you let go of all of the busyness, anxiousness, worry and fear concerning what you are waiting for. When you get still and you calm down, God begins a beautiful work on the inside of you. He does a work that only waiting can produce.

Be Patient

When you are waiting for something that you consider really important it seems like it is never going to come! Psalm 27:13-14 reads yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. This scripture reminds us to wait patiently for the Lord. God is faithful. He is trustworthy. He is consistent. If He made you a promise, then you can be patient because His goodness assures us that He can be trusted.

Be Confident

While you are still in His presence, and waiting patiently, you can also be confident. Micah 7:7 says as for me, I look to the Lord for help, I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me. You can be confident because you can trust that your God, who loves you deeply, will hear you and save you. As you move through your waiting season, remain confident, hopeful, and expectant because He will surely come through for you!

I don’t know how much longer you or I will wait, but here is what I do know: If He said it, it will come to pass! In the meantime, be still, be patient, and be confident. One day, sooner than you think, you will notice what you were waiting for has manifested in your life, and you will know that it was nothing but the goodness of the Lord! Let Him heal your soul!

Your Sister in Christ,

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come now just to say thank you! Forgive me for the times when I grumbled and complained about waiting. Help me not to waste this waiting season, but to be still, be patient, and be confident as you move in my life. Make me ready to receive your goodness in my life. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
