What to do When Destiny Pursues You

August 21, 2017

You do know that God has a plan for your life, right?  You do recognize that you are chosen for greatness which will bring Him glory, right?  You do understand that you are God’s investment, and He will get a return on His investment, right?

Sometimes all of that is so hard to comprehend, but it’s all true.  Often times, we find ourselves in the midst of situations or seasons where it’s hard to imagine that God has big plans for us.  If you’re like me, you may have wondered how God could have greatness in store for you when you’re sitting in the middle of a mess.  I have learned that it is still possible.

The truth of the matter is that it really doesn’t matter where you find yourself today, or what you are going through…if you belong to God, and Jesus is your Savior, then destiny is chasing you down.  You may be struggling in a relationship that you know you need to get out of, drowning in debt, or even feeling stuck on a job, but you need to look past all of that, and settle in your spirit (at this very moment) that God has great things in store for you.  I dare you to just say it out loud.  Say “God has a great plan for my life”.  That probably felt a little uncomfortable to you, so this time say it again with more confidence!  In fact, say it every day until you begin to believe it.

I believe we struggle to embrace all of the greatness that God has for each of us because we know our own limitations. Trust me, I get it.  God pushes me every single day to do things that make me uncomfortable, things that I have no idea how to do.  You see, the problem is that you and I think that we are expected to walk boldly into our destinies and be great on our own, and that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Isaiah 55:11 (NLT) says it is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

This scripture teaches us that it is not up to you or I to go out, and be great in our own strength.  We would never be able to do that anyway!  This scripture teaches us that God is doing all of the work, He is just looking for our obedience and cooperation.  I don’t know about you, but that is a relief for me!  Knowing that it’s not my responsibility to map out my life, plan all of the details, and make sure that everything aligns is freeing for me.  I am free to just keep moving forward knowing that my destiny is before me.  Every step that I takes moves me closer and deeper into all that He has for me.  Therefore, I can simply just keep moving and trusting God.

You are probably reading this right now because you are just not satisfied.  You are just unsettled about many things. God has been nudging you or speaking to you that there is more.  You may not even understand what the ‘more’ is that He is referring to, but you sense that it has got to be a lot better than where you are right now.  My dear friend, have no fear, you are not alone, and you are simply being pursued by your destiny.

Here are a few things to do when destiny is pursuing you:

Shake it Off

Don’t allow what you are going through or what you have been through to rob you of your destiny.  It is yours; it is what God has for you.  Romans 8:28 (NASB) reminds us that and we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.  Shake all of that stuff off of you from your past and present and just embrace your destiny.

Do a Heart & Mind Check

When destiny is pursuing you, you must do a heart and mind check.  You want to make sure that your very own soul is not what’s going to keep you from being all that God has called you to be.  It’s much easier for us to point out all of the things happening to us and/or around us that is problematic, but what about when we are the problem?  "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve." Jeremiah 17:10 (NIV) When you do a thorough heart and mind check, you are better able to embrace your destiny.

Commit Your Plans

As destiny pursues you, constantly commit your plans to God.  You might have an idea of the way things should happen or what you would like to accomplish, but when you commit it to the Lord, He does what needs to be done.  If you are managing the plan, then you are responsible for its success.  When God manages the plan, He will ensure its success.  Commit your works to the LORD And your plans will be established. Proverbs 16:3 (NASB)  When you commit your plans, then you are better able to embrace your destiny.

Relax on the Promise

When destiny is pursuing you, the most important thing that you can do is to relax on the promise.  The promise in Jeremiah 1:5 (NLT) reads I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb.  Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.   You can relax on the promise because God knows you.  He formed you.  He set you apart and He appointed you.  That means He knows it all, and you (along with your destiny) are in His most capable hands.  So, you can relax and embrace your destiny.

I’m excited about all that God has for you!  You are one step closer to your destiny every day.  Just keep on moving and embrace everything that He has for you!  Let Him heal your soul!

Your Sister in Christ,

Prayer:  Father, I come just to say thank you.  Thank you for having a great plan for my life.  Teach me to embrace it, and walk boldly into everything that you have for me.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
