Stop Worrying and Start Renewing Your Mind

October 9, 2017

Worry is such an annoying little thing.  Nothing good ever comes from it yet we still do it.  Why is that?  Why do we spend so much time worrying about this and worrying about that?  Imagine what it would be like to live a worry-free life.  Ahhhh, that sounds amazing to me!  Is that even possible?  I believe so, but we must consistently renew our minds.

For some of us that might be a daily renewal while for others that might be an hourly renewal. Romans 12:2 NIV reads do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.  Whatever it takes, let us strive to stop worrying and start renewing our minds.

If we are going to truly start renewing our minds, then we must train our minds to perceive our situations and circumstances differently.  When we take a look at what is happening in our lives we have to look for the good in the situation versus worrying about the situation.

Filtering our thoughts before reacting too quickly will also help us to start renewing our minds.  When we surrender every thought to the Holy Spirit, He will help us to determine which thoughts we should think on and which ones we should throw out.  We can practice by not pondering, but capturing certain thoughts.

2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV teaches that we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.  Our minds can be renewed when we shut off negative thoughts before they even have the chance to conceive.  We know that our minds have been renewed when we are able to only speak positive statements about our own lives.

Lastly, there are a couple of practical things we can do if we are going to stop worrying and starting renewing our minds. Getting the appropriate amount of uninterrupted sleep each night helps to have a clear renewed mind.  Also, taking the time to rest your mind every day {several times throughout the day} will help you to really focus and renew.  Ephesians 4:23 NLT sums it up beautifully for us with this message: instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  The key to it all is to pray and ask God to renew your mind daily. I speak a clear, focused, and renewed mind over you today. Let Him heal your soul!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father,  Thank you for caring about the things that concern me.  I know that I don't have to worry because I can trust you. Help me to renew my mind daily in you.  In Jesus' Mighty Name I pray, Amen.
